Halloween Itch

125 days until Halloween!

The Halloween project itch is in full force! I have been in charge of planning several parties and baby showers for friends and family...but Halloween seems to always be on my mind. I should be searching on Pinterest for baby shower decoration ideas and yet I find myself searching for things like, "head in a jar prop" , "fake blood recipe" or "spider egg sack tutorial". I have to keep myself focused and and finish the current parties so I can then dedicate all my time to my favorite holiday. I can't wait to creep around the internet for inspiration for new recipes and projects for my haunt.

Vampire Bat Baby

The thrift store is one of my favorite places to shop for elements for my Halloween haunt. I love the challenge of digging through old items and seeing their creepy potential!

I found this strange looking doll...I'm thinking it's supposed to be an "Anne Geddes" type doll with a baby in some sort of fuzzy butterfly costume. It was pretty creepy to begin with but the butterfly wings gave me the idea of bat wings!

I started the transformation by lightly painting the fur with acrylic paints. I painted the body black and the head red. I liked fact that the fur color still slightly showed through the paint.

Next I sketched out some bat wings on posterboard paper. The posterboard will act as a template as well as acting as a firm base for the wings.

I cut the right wing out, flipped it over and traced it to create the left wing.

Next, I used the posterboard wings to trace 2 sets of the felt wings. I hot glued the felt wings to both the front and back of the posterboard wings. Then, I used acrylic paint to create the bones of the wings.

I cut the existing butterfly wings off the doll and hot glued the new bat wings on.

I painted the face white and rimmed the eyes and lips with red paint.

The end result is a creepy, cute Vampire Bat Baby! He will be a perfect addition to my evil nursery display!

Happy Haunting!

Human Heart Cupcakes

Why given a dozen roses when you can give a dozen Human Heart Cupcakes this Valentine's Day?!

If you aren't the sentimental type and are tired of the sugared heart shapes and frilly flowers, why not go for something more realistic!

In anticipation of Valentine's Day, I found the perfect cocktail for you! This Bloody Valentine Martini uses Blood Oranges, Absolute Mandarin Vodka and Campari.

My Latest Victims

I was looking for some furniture at my local thrift store, when I decided to check out the toy section. I came across a few baby dolls that would be perfect for my next victims to be "Zombified".

I first saw this larger size baby doll, which will be perfect for a more realistic look once painted. Only $1.99 at the thrift store!

I then saw this guy which is much smaller but so creepy looking on it's own! I think it's one of those Anne Geddes style dolls. I can't wait to paint this one with some darker colors and maybe change the butterfly wings to bat wings!

I'll post pictures of the dolls once I've finished painting and "Zombifying" them! These will be a perfect addition to my Zombie Nursery Halloween scene.

First Annual Amber Dawn of the Dead Halloween party

I wanted to share some of the pictures from my annual Halloween party. This was the first Halloween in my new place and the biggest party I have ever done. It was a large undertaking in which I decorated every room in the house as well as the backyard. It was a lot of hard work but so worth it. I have an incredible group of family and friends who helped with the set up. Fun times had by all!

A group of us went as Zombie Disney characters! It was a big hit at the party! I was Zombie Ariel and my boyfriend was as super creepy Zombie Pinocchio. Some of my friends were Zombie Cinderella, Zombie Aladdin & Jasmine and Zombie Incredibles. So much fun!

The awesome costume contest winners, proudly displaying their trophies!

Hope you enjoyed the pictures! Happy Haunting!
